Cmd-Number should switch to the given tab. It is Traditional.

Another of several "new Mac OS X install" posts to remind me of my settings the next time I do this.
For some reason
Cmd-Number in Safari does something no other browser does and opens some random new website instead of switching to the tab you want.
Thankfully rs created a SIMBL plugin that gives this common-sensical behavior to Safari. It works perfectly fine in Safari 7.0 on Mavericks.
Just go to the SafariTabSwitching repo and read the README. It'll lead you to a package to install SIMBL and then the plugin. Restart Safari and behold.
